This presentation is open to EIC Members Only

Over the last 12 months or so, the question of Iran and its purported nuclear arms programme has hardly been absent from the world stage. However, considering that Iran also holds the 2nd largest recoverable reserves in both oil & gas, and given the current high price of these essential hydrocarbons, when coupled with a long and traditionally very strong trading relationship between the UK and Iran, it is not surprising that there happens to be very significant and totally unrelated business opportunities for UK companies that persistently present themselves.

Unlike the US, there is no fully fledged trade embargo in existence between the UK and Iran.  However despite this, UK companies are become increasingly frustrated at the various barriers and obstacles that seem to have recently been established.

The EIC feels obliged on behalf of its membership to bring together as many interested parties as possible to discuss, debate and explore the implications of this current trading environment, with a view to seeing if solutions and best practices could be shared amongst us all so that ultimately, our foreign competitors who somehow manage to reap the rewards without the challenges that we face here in the UK, can be given a far better and stronger run for their money!

Who Should Attend?
Companies and individuals with an interest in or with experience of doing business in Iran are encouraged to attend.

Format
This event will firstly seek official clarification of exactly what the position is with regard to UK companies trading with Iran.  Following coffee, a Round Table Discussion Forum will ensue (strictly under Chatham House Rule). This format encourages attendees to share experiences from “the coalface”.  Attendees can expect frank discussion, debate and practical advice on how to do business in Iran under the current conditions.

Speakers & Contributors
Terry Willis, Managing Director, EIC Middle East; Paul Taylor, Head Middle East, UKTI; FCO; Export Credit Guarantee Department (ECGD); Yousef Daneshvar OBE, Deputy Chairman, The British-Iranian Chamber of Commerce (BICC).
