British Red Cross Sponsored White Water Rafting Event

At 10am on a sunny Saturday 21st October 2006, 14 EIC members and guests gathered at Grandtully for what promised to be a challenging White Water Rafting adventure!

It started with a brief speech from Alistair Donald, owner of the rafting school used on the day, in a very comical fashion he explained the dos and don’ts of rafting and what the schedule would be for the day. After this everyone squeezed in to their wet suits and were taken by minibus several miles down the River Tay to the start of the white water rafting course.

Before heading for the rapids everyone was given brief training on how to raft. The teams headed several miles down river, on route several rafts engaged in team rivalry which resulted in team members taking a ‘swim’!

The course ended with several white water rapids which all teams handled well with no members falling over board.

It is important not to forget the reason why everyone took part in this adventure, which was to raise money for the British Red Cross. In total the EIC team raised approximately £3254! Sylvia Aitken and her team from Aberdeen Valve Supplies raised the most with £2001 which equated to £285 each, for which they received a token prize.

The British Red Cross did an excellent job in organising this event. We will definitely consider making a thrill-seeking charity event an annual one. Any suggestions for next year are most welcome.
