The UK group at Offshore Northern Seas 2006 (ONS) Stavanger
22-25 August 2006
"The ONS 2006 exhibition, conference and festival in Stavanger has exceeded all the organiser’s expectations", says Kjell Ursin-Smith, managing director of the ONS Foundation. "Bridging the energy gap" was the main theme for this years event.
Over 1,100 paying delegates, a new record, attended the conference, while the 1,251 exhibitors attracted roughly 34 000 visitors. This was a slight increase on 2004.
With 50 per cent of the exhibitors coming from outside Norway, the exhibition occupied just over 17,500 square metres of stand space divided between 10 halls and various outdoor sites. There were 366 stands, including 18 national pavilions which often housed smaller stands. Twenty-three countries were represented in all.
The UK Group, situated in Hall J, was 37 companies strong, and took up an area of almost 500m2. Many of the UK Group companies felt that they benefited from heightened visibility and UK association, as many business visitors make a point of visiting the UK Group at trade shows and vital walk-by traffic can be monopolised upon. The UK Group benefited too from the UK group brochure, which was distributed throughout the show and there were VIP tours of the group.
UK Group exhibitors also had the benefits of a comprehensive lounge facility, meeting room and EIC onsite logistical support - all provided to help the exhibitors concentrate on doing business at the show. The UKTI stand was situated inside the UK group lounge and local commercial staff from the Embassy were on hand to offer advice at any point on contacts to make and how to do business in Norway. There were also networking opportunities with neighbouring UK group companies, where the exchange of experiences and business opportunities was of great benefit.
A British Embassy reception was hosted by HM Ambassador David Powell, at the Rogaland Kunstmuseum and was enjoyed by all who attended. Grateful thanks goes to all the British Embassy staff who helped to organize such a great networking event. Networking continued in the evenings throughout the week, with various receptions, fjord trips and fireworks.
“Good show, well organised, very helpful staff at EIC most likely we will do other shows with EIC” Cliff Berry, Centek
“Raelene did a great job - organistaion excellent and staff friendly and helpful” Irene Gray, ITF
