Northern Annual Dinner
Thursday 1st March 2007
Power Hall, Museum of Science & Industry, Manchester

The first day of March saw the Northern Region Annual Dinner taking place in Manchester. Following in the footsteps of last year’s event held at the National Railway Museum in York, this year delegates were invited to the Power Hall at the Museum of Science and Industry.

The evening began with a drinks reception hour, which was sponsored by British Nuclear Group Project Services. During this time, the exhibits in the Power Hall were working and museum staff were on hand to talk about the pieces on display.

The Dinner was opened with a key-note speech from Paul Spence, Head of Strategy at British Energy. Paul spoke about the current state of the energy industry and the future role of nuclear power for the UK.

A delicious 3 course Dinner was enjoyed by all, during which we were entertained by the “Manhattan Swing Band”. After Dinner, Tom McClean gave a very personal and entertaining presentation on his “Life of Adventure”, from growing up in an orphanage, his time in the SAS and Paratroopers and his many record breaking attempts including rowing single handed across the Atlantic amongst others.

Once again the evening was enjoyed by our Members and their guests, many of whom asked where next year’s event would be held! The hope is that the numbers attending the Northern Annual Dinner will continue to grow and gain support and the quest to find a suitably unusual venue for next year is already underway.
