" An Audience with Kate Adie"

It has to be admitted that it was a particularly good coup for the Dubai Office of the EIC to secure the services of renowned reporter, Kate Adie who was visiting Dubai to promote her latest book and happened to have a vacant slot in her busy schedule to join us for lunch. This was only possible thanks to the kind sponsorship of global members, FTV Proclad.

Over 50 members and their guests were privileged to hear Kate talk about some highlights of her career, and in particular her coverage in the Middle East.

Her anecdotes from her 25 year association with the region were particularly humorous, especially those that related to the Gulf War for which she achieved notoriety.

Another aspect that she touched on which generated a great deal of debate was the recent growth of 24 hour news channels and their predicted decline as a consequence of the latest technological advances with regard to the internet and mobile communications. Given the huge costs incurred in sustaining a 24 hour news service coupled with the general irregularity of news events, it was difficult to see how any channel could keep an audience that was already diminishing in numbers due to there being other far more accessible sources of information.

Staying well past her expected departure time, it was an absolute pleasure to host such an event and everybody, without exception commented on how much they enjoyed the occasion.
