Do you want a future in Energy? 2008
The Holyrood Hotel, Holyrood Road, Edinburgh. EH8 8AU
Tuesday 4 March 2008

In order to address the massive skills shortage in the Energy Sector, the EIC Scottish office very successfully
ran in March of last year a graduate recruitment event in Aberdeen for Robert Gordon University and Aberdeen
University students. Following on from this success we decided to repeat the event in Edinburgh this year.
Members were given the opportunity to present their company overview and graduate opportunities to students
from Napier University, Heriot Watt University and Edinburgh University. We once again marketed the event to
all universities in the target area. This year we had 8 member companies presenting. We had over 60 booked
with a respectable attendance on the night.
The evening started with some light refreshments and students informally networking with presenting member
companies. Each company had their exhibition stand manned by representative from their company. Lesley-
Anne Brodie, Scottish Manager for the EIC, started off the proceedings by giving a short introduction and
welcome to the event. The companies presented in the following order with a short break midway.
Keith Neish, Mechanical Engineering Graduate, AMEC
Alex Baird, Business Development & Tendering Manager, Balfour Kilpatrick
Iain Carrick, Technical Training Group Head, British Energy
Duncan Anderson, HR manager, Lloyds Register
Gordon Langlands, Business Development Manager, Merpro
Stuart Duncan, Welding Engineer, Proclad Group
Yvonne Walker, Recruitment Manager, Personal Services Network
Alistair Currie, Graduate Engineer, Sparrows Offshore
The evening finished with more informal networking. We had great feedback from students and speakers alike
with everyone saying they found the event very useful. As always we will be running a CV brokering service to all
students that signed up to the event.
