Network Lunch with CO2DeepStore Ltd
St George Hotel
Durham Tees Valley Airport
Darlington
Wednesday 18th June 2008
As a replacement for the CO2 Sector-Based Forum in June, this Network Lunch proved very popular with around 40 delegates gathering at the St George Hotel to listen to the presentation made by Ian Phillips, Director of CO2 Infrastructure at CO2DeepStore Ltd.
Beginning with an overview of his background, both academic and his previous employment, Ian then went on to deliver a highly interesting and informative presentation. He addressed the reasons behind increasing levels of CO2 being present in the atmosphere such as population growth which has led to increased demands on energy sources as a result of higher usage. He then highlighted ways of reducing CO2 emissions by using alternative sources of energy and ways in which we can use or dispose of CO2 which has already been created, particularly by way of Carbon Capture and Storage and Offsetting, to minimise damage to the environment.
Following this, Paul Main from the EIC Business Information Department provided an update presentation covering the CO2 Projects which are currently being tracked on the database. This was concluded with a brief question and answer session prior to lunch, over which a great deal of networking took place.
Following the lunch Ian was inundated with people speaking to him directly regarding opportunities, which also resulted in him making many useful new contacts. Feedback following this event has been extremely positive, further highlighting its success.
