Network Lunch with the Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) Partnership

Eggborough Power Station

Wednesday 19 March 2008

Attended by around 40 delegates, this sell out Network Lunch was a replacement for March’s CO2 Forum.  It was hosted by British Energy at the Eggborough Power Station, which was an ideal setting, with a presentation given by a representative from the UCG Partnership.

The event began with a welcome by Paul Tomlinson, Station Director, who also provided an insight into the Power Station and some of their recent achievements.  He then handed over to our speaker for the event – Kenneth Fergusson from the UCG Partnership.  Ken’s presentation covered an explanation about Coal Gasification, the chemistry and processes involved, what has already been achieved by way of examples of some of the current projects and the scope for future progress.  The presentation was extremely well received, which was reflected in the many questions during the question and answer session which concluded the presentation.

Following our networking lunch, we were taken on an extensive guided tour of the Power Station, which was extremely informative and very interesting.  We would like to extend our thanks to our tour guides from the Power Station who took time out of their busy schedules to show us around.  These key personnel were also more than happy to answer questions which further enhanced the event and ensured its success.
