Who are Aker Solutions and what is our business?

 There is an old saying ‘timing is everything’ and it certainly applied to this event as Aker Kvaerner had just made the announcement they were now called Aker Solutions. This name change provoked a lot of interest, in total 87 places were booked. After a brief introduction from Lesley-Anne Brodie, EIC Scottish Manager, Gary Ingram from Emerson Process Management presented a rather different 15 minute slot. Instead of the usual introduction to what the member company does he spoke about a new wireless technology product they have. This went down really well with members that attended and we are considering allowing more members to use their 15 minute slot to introduce new products.
After Gary’s presentation Mike Hepburn, Supply Chain Manager from Aker Offshore Partner started his presentation off by briefly talking about the company name change. He then went on to talk about the different Aker group companies. He also spoke about the corporate structure of the group. Mike then spoke about where in the world they were carrying out business and what projects they are working on. After talking about the Aker group Mike focused on Aker Solutions. He talked about the challenges they faced as a company and then followed this on to talk about the challenges suppliers face doing business with Aker Solutions. Mike finished off by giving a comprehensive list of contacts with Aker Solutions. Mike’s presentation was well received by all that attended, which showed with many interesting questions that were raised. His presentation was followed by a networking lunch.
