Do you want a future in Energy?
Thursday 22nd March 2007
Aberdeen FC, Aberdeen
It is widely known in the current energy industry boom that there is a lack of appropriately skilled personnel. With this knowledge and a good relationship with Robert Gordon's University and The University of Aberdeen we felt it was time to do something to help within the industry. We organised an event that brought together the two universities and our member companies. What a success it was! After some heavy marketing at RGU and Aberdeen University over 80 students turned up to 'Do you want a future in Energy?’ 6 member companies each had 15 minutes to present their company overview and graduate opportunities.
The evening started with students informally networking with presenting member companies. Tim Yeomans, Scottish Events Manager for the EIC, started things off by giving a short introduction and welcome to the event. He then passed over to John Wood of ABB who gave the first presentation who was followed by Gordon Mackay of Cape Industrial/DBI. After Gordon, Ian Sloan of DoosanBabcock gave his presentation. After the first three presentations it was time for a quick refreshment break. Simon Coton, from NES Group was next, followed by Ian McPherson of Schlumberger and Bill Cunningham of Tyco Fire and Integrated Solutions.
The evening concluded with more informal networking. We had great feedback from students and speakers alike and the overwhelming feeling is that we should definitely run more of these events in Scotland and other EIC regions.
"We found the event to be very useful. It was extremely well attended and the calibre of attending companies was excellent. We have already received a number of interesting applications.” Simon Cotton, NES
"…the event attracted the right response in terms of quality and numbers...” Ian McPherson, Schlumberger
