Why Poland?
All eyes are on Poland, a country that is showing the world how to successfully develop an offshore wind market with speed.
In the last two years the country has seen the first lot of CfDs (Contracts for Difference) awarded to eight wind farm sites, the launch of its Offshore Wind Sector Deal, and now further lease areas are starting to be awarded. International players have already made their stamp in Poland, including Northland Power, Equinor, Ørsted and RWE Renewables.
Despite having no turbines installed in its waters, that is all set to change from 2025 onwards. The first batch of wind farms have started construction works and are seeing major contracts awards go to the likes of Smulders, Van Oord and DEME.
With around 7.5GW set to come online by 2030, Poland has expectedly become a hub for supply chain opportunities, as it continues to make strides in becoming a well developed market.
