Danish renewables developer Ørsted has formed partnership with Japan Wind Development (JWD) and Eurus Energy to jointly develop offshore wind projects in the Akita Prefecture.
Two designated offshore wind sites will be developed off the Akita coast, including the 415MW Noshiro/Mitane/Oga Offshore Wind Farm and the 730MW Yurihonjo Offshore Wind Farm.
The consortium brings together leading strengths in global offshore wind with a strong emphasis on local renewables content.
Japan’s west coast is expected to produce up to 5GW of offshore wind by 2030 and 9GW by 2040 as part of the country’s national 30-45GW offshore wind ambition by 2040.
