The UK’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero has officially granted a Development Consent Order (DCO) for the Peartree Hill Solar Farm. Promoted by RWE, the development encompasses a utility-scale solar array co-located with a battery energy storage system (BESS).
Due to the facility's anticipated generation capacity exceeding 50MW, it was classified as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project. The final approval, issued on 2 July 2026, follows a comprehensive six-month public examination by the Planning Inspectorate that concluded earlier in the year.
While an exact schedule for initial groundworks has not been established, RWE plans to sustain local stakeholder engagement as the project transitions towards the construction phase. Once operational, the integrated infrastructure will provide vital low-carbon electricity and network balancing services to the national grid.
