New market opportunities

Denmark has a strong national commitment to sustainability and net zero targets. EICDataStream currently tracks 16 hydrogen projects worth $16bn, with nine in feasibility and one on hold (European Energy’s Padborg PtX Green Hydrogen). The country also has one cross-border pipeline to Germany, with over $1bn approved pending 2026 capacity bookings. On the renewables side, Denmark has 33 projects totalling 25GW and $53bn CAPEX. Offshore wind remains central, with 12 farms in the North and Baltic Seas, complemented by 14 solar projects. A robust grid system supports integration, while Danish companies such as Ørsted and Vestas export expertise globally.

Norway has 19 hydrogen projects worth $4.3bn, 11 in feasibility and two under construction (Hydrogen Hub Agder and Bodø Green Hydrogen, both 20MW). A final investment decision was taken in 2025 for Norwegian Hydrogen’s 25MW Rjukan project, backed by the European Hydrogen Bank. Green hydrogen development leverages Norway’s wind and hydropower resources. The country remains a stable O&G producer and leading exporter, with 61% of exports coming from energy in 2024. It plays a key role in Europe’s supply security after the Russian shortfall and ranks 9th globally for CAPEX spend to 2030, estimated in US$43bn, $15bn is destined for projects that have already been sanctioned, and the remainder $27bn, with projects pending FID. Exploration is set to expand, with Phase VI sanctioned for 2026. Notably, OneSubsea secured an EPC contract for Fram Sør, delivering a fully electric 12-well subsea production system. Norway also advances in renewables, with 29 projects (13GW, $14bn CAPEX). Offshore wind in the North Sea is a priority, with seabed allocations under way. Interconnectors support regional grid stability, and political backing plus abundant resources position Norway as a key energy player.
