Colombia’s Mines and Energy Ministry has made public the final version of its offshore wind strategy for the upcoming years. The country’s first offshore wind auction is currently under works by the ministry and DIMAR, the Colombian maritime agency.
The offshore wind roadmap had been under public consultation since February, a process that was recently completed.
Its reviewed version holds the same general aspects of the draft, reaffirming Colombia’s offshore wind potential of 50GW, with up to 9GW already installed by 2050. Until then, these new plants could draw approximately US$27bn of total investment.
The first Colombian offshore wind farm, announced last March, is already under development. The 350MW facility will be located off the coast of Barranquilla.
