Polish energy group Orlen has assumed leadership of the planned BWRX-300 small modular reactor facility at Włocławek. This follows a framework agreement with joint venture partner Synthos Green Energy, which will separately spearhead development at the Stawy Monowskie site.
The staged Włocławek project aims to commission its first unit by the mid-2030s. Utilising boiling water technology, the plant could eventually supply both continuous electricity and industrial heat to support the region’s established chemical sector.
While specific capacity configurations, financial commitments and regulatory timelines remain undisclosed, the agreement establishes a clear operational division between the state-controlled enterprise and its private developer counterpart. Upcoming milestones will include formal site configurations, construction licence submissions to the national regulator and the announcement of prospective financing partners to advance the wider Polish nuclear programme.
