Equinor, through its subsidiary Rio Energy, has purchased the 230MW Esquina do Vento onshore wind development in north-east Brazil from Vestas. Located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, the ready-to-build facility will feature 51 V163-4.5MW turbines supplied by the manufacturer, which will also provide operations and maintenance services under a 30-year agreement.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026, targeting commercial operations by 2028. Once fully operational, the complex is expected to generate up to 1TWh of clean electricity annually, providing enough power for approximately 520,000 Brazilian homes.
