PETRONAS has signed a historic 20-year Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) with QatarEnergy to offtake up to 2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of LNG. This marks the first long-term supply deal between the two national energy giants, formalized this week at the LNG2026 conference in Doha.
The agreement is designed to bolster Malaysia's energy security and diversify PETRONAS' supply portfolio beyond its existing assets in Malaysia and Canada. The secured volumes will ensure stable availability to meet growing domestic demand, complementing the company's broader strategy to "unlock new avenues" for value across the global LNG value chain.
