The Mozambique LNG consortium has officially confirmed the full restart of construction activities at the Afungi site, following the lifting of force majeure in late 2025. The announcement, made jointly with the Mozambican government, unlocks the next phase of the $20 billion development, which is currently 40% complete.
With over 4,000 workers already mobilized, the project is now on track for first LNG in 2029. While much of the major engineering and procurement was finalized during the suspension, the updated development plan emphasizes a $4 billion local content commitment, ensuring significant contract opportunities for domestic companies. The project, operated by TotalEnergies alongside partners such as Mitsui and ENH, remains a critical pillar for global energy security.
