SSEN Transmission has awarded NKT its largest-ever contract, valued at approximately €2bn, to deliver high-voltage cable systems for two critical infrastructure projects in Scotland. The agreement covers the design, production, and installation of 525kV high-voltage direct current (HVDC) onshore and subsea cables for the Western Isles connection and the Spittal to Peterhead link.
These projects are central to SSEN Transmission’s wider £22bn+ grid upgrade program. The Western Isles link will enable the export of renewable power from island generation to the mainland, while the Spittal-Peterhead line establishes a strategic transmission corridor across the north of Scotland. This award continues the partnership between the two companies, following successful deliveries on the Caithness-Moray and Shetland links.
