Uniper Global Commodities and AM Green have executed a landmark long-term binding offtake agreement for the supply of up to 500,000 tons of green ammonia per year. Signed in the presence of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the deal represents one of the first major realized supply corridors between India and Europe. The agreement focuses on ammonia certified as a Renewable Fuel of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO), which will be used to decarbonize hard-to-abate European sectors such as fertilizer production, chemical refining, and maritime shipping.
The supply will originate from AM Green’s production facility in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, which is currently under construction and scheduled to begin deliveries as early as 2028. This facility is part of a larger 1 MTPA portfolio designed to meet strict European compliance standards. For industry players, this "firm and dispatchable" contract signals a maturing of the green hydrogen market, moving from theoretical capacity to secured, bankable trade flows supported by major global investors including Gentari, GIC, and ADIA.
