Duke Energy has made public its investment in two North Carolina projects: Foothills Renewables and Upper Piedmont Renewables, which will enable the conversion of landfill gas into renewable natural gas (RNG) in the counties of Caldwell and Person, respectively.
The projects, under development by Evensol, will produce combined around 1 million dekatherms (Dth) of annual RNG. This amount is enough to supply natural gas for 17,000 homes in the state.
With the RNG produced planned to be sold to customers in the free market, a portion of it will be transported by Piedmont Natural Gas, a unit of Duke Energy.
Energyneering Solutions LLC has been chosen for the construction and operation of the landfill projects.
Foothills and Upper Piedmont’s civil works are currently ongoing, with start-up slated for the end of 2022.
