SSE Renewables and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy have disclosed this week plans for a green hydrogen project in Sutherland, Scottish Highlands.
Last year, both the companies firmed an agreement to assess opportunities of green hydrogen production associated with onshore wind farms.
With a production goal of up to 2,000 tonnes of green hydrogen each year, the facility’s electrolyser will be powered by SSE’s Gordonbush wind farm, with over 100MW of capacity.
Siemens’ Renewable Hydrogen Upgrade solution, comprising of electrolyser and ancillary technology, will be integrated at the Gordonbush site. A lithium-ion battery energy storage system is also under the project’s scope.
