Petrobras has confirmed the presence of hydrocarbons at the Morpho exploratory well, located in block FZA-M-59. Situated approximately 175km off the coast of Amapá within the Amazon River mouth sedimentary basin, the ultra-deepwater asset sits at a water depth of 2,886m.
The operator identified the hydrocarbon-bearing intervals using electrical and rock indicator logs. Drilling operations remain ongoing as the firm continues to assess the frontier prospect's commercial viability. Petrobras holds a 100% operating stake in the concession, having acquired it during the country's 11th bidding round in 2013.
This milestone represents a significant step in exploring Brazil’s equatorial margin. Successful appraisal of the area aligns with the company's long-term strategy to replace declining oil and gas reserves, ensuring sustained production and national energy security.
