New market opportunities
The USA offshore wind sector, particularly in the Northeast region, is emerging as a significant opportunity for the energy supply chain. With already 310 MW of operational capacity concentrated in New England and Mid-Atlantic states, major developments are underway, featuring nearly 38 GW in both active and future projects. Among these, global players like Ørsted are driving the expansion, with the developer planning 6.7GW across six projects. In addition to that, other operators in the sector’s top 10 globally, such as Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, TotalEnergies, Equinor, Ocean Winds and more are also making major investments in the area. CIP’s Vineyard Wind is already operating as the offshore wind facility in the country, contributing up to 136MW from its planned 800MW to the grid.
With growing contract activity and an increase in power purchase agreements (PPAs), the region is ripe for supply chain participation across all stages — from feasibility to EPC. The potential continues to rise, with four of the top five U.S. states in offshore wind capacity located in the Northeast, including nearly 14GW off the coast of New York. Scheduled auctions from now to 2028, in addition to the ones already held in the past years, solidify the region as a hotspot for opportunities, offering diverse engagement across project phases.
