Europe currently has over 4,900 energy projects under development across a diverse range of sectors and markets. Should all of these projects proceed as planned, they would represent a significant investment opportunity, with a combined CAPEX of $3.63 trillion.
The cleantech sector accounts for over 85% of projects currently under development, spanning renewables, clean fuels, hydrogen, carbon capture and nuclear. Together, these projects represent more than $3.2 trillion in potential CAPEX, highlighting the scale of investment being directed towards Europe’s energy transition.
Oil and gas activity remains present across the region, although at a more limited scale compared with other energy sectors. Current developments are largely driven by projects in Norway, while markets such as Cyprus are also beginning to see new projects move forward.
