The government of Poland has chosen American company Westinghouse Electric for the provision of three AP1000 nuclear reactors for different facilities to be built in the country. The United States and Poland have an ongoing civil nuclear cooperation programme since September 2021.
Within the partnership, Poland will be able to install six large nuclear reactors in its territory using American technology.
Westinghouse affirms that the AP1000 model features a power output of 3,600MW, enough to meet 15% of Polish demand for electricity.
Poland’s new nuclear power facilities will generate approximately 20,000 jobs during construction phase. Once complete, the plants will avoid the emission of 26 million tonnes of CO2.
