Shell Nederland and Eneco’s join venture CrossWind has announced the beginning of construction at its Hollandse Kust Noord project. The offshore wind farm is placed over 18km off the coast of the Netherlands.
Construction work has begun with the installation of the first monopile 10 weeks in advance to the original schedule.
The plant’s contracts for supply of foundations and cables as well as for installation of wind turbines (supplied by Siemens Gamesa) was awarded to Van Oord in 2020. Monopiles installation is expected to be concluded in 2023.
Once Hollandse Kust Noord is fully operational by late 2023, it will have a capacity of 759MW. Annual production is calculated at 3.3TWh, 2.8% of the Netherlands’ electricity demand.
