Iberdrola has announced the beginning of Port Augusta’s commissioning phase in South Australia. The project is the world’s first hybrid wind-solar park, featuring 210MW of wind power and 107MW of solar capacity.
The first tests performed at the project’s site in April were related to its wind power section, while the current works are being carried out at the solar power section.
The plant consists of 50 wind turbines and 250,000 solar modules, enough to stop the emission of over 400,000 of CO2 annually.
Port Augusta received an investment of over US$300m for its completion. Now, it is expected to deliver energy equivalent to the demands of 180,000 homes.
