Equinor has announced that first oil has been achieved at the second development phase of the Peregrino heavy oil field in the Campos Basin, offshore Brazil.
Originally planned to reach start-up in 2020, the project was delayed due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Operations are possible thanks to Peregrino C, a new well head platform and drilling rig located in a water depth of 120m, which is tied back to the Peregrino floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit.
The second development phase of the field expects to add 250 to 300 million barrels to Peregrino’s general capacity.
