CenterPoint Energy has received approval from the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) to build a 460MW gas-fired power plant in the state. The application was sent for assessment earlier in June.
The new gas-fired project will consist in the construction of two natural gas combustion turbines, with total investment estimated at US$334m.
The facility will replace the coal-fired generation of the 700MW A.B. Brown power plant, which will be retired in late 2023.
The new plant is part of CenterPoint Energy’s efforts to reach net zero by 2035.
