Falck Renewables and BlueFoat Energy have announced to be jointly developing plans for a 975MW offshore wind farm in Sardinia, Italy. The plant will be located 25-40km off the coast, featuring 62 floating turbines.
Called Tibula Energia, the farm will produce 3.4TWh per year, enough to power over 900,000 homes and prevent 1.6 million tonnes of CO2 to be released.
The developers have been conducting exploratory research into local sea and wind conditions, environmental impacts and industrial infrastructures for the last twelve months.
As part of the application for the acquisition of a maritime concession, a consultation with the local community has already been launched. The authorisation process at the Ministry of Ecological Transition will begin in the next weeks.
