Partners TotalEnergies, Sempra Infrastructure, Mitsui & Co. and Mitsubishi have signed an agreement for the development of the Hackberry Carbon Sequestration (HCS) project at the Cameron LNG terminal in Hackberry, Louisiana.
Emissions from the first and second phases of the Cameron project will be captured.
The initiative will capture up to 2 annual million tonnes of CO2, which will be dehydrated, compressed, transported via a 10km pipeline and stored in a saline aquifer using an injection well.
HCS’s joint venture partners have already filed a successful application with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the construction of the injection well.
Development of the project remains subject to definitive agreements, obtaining the necessary permits, and all partners reaching a final investment decision.
