Iberdrola’s green hydrogen plant in Puertollano, Spain, has reached start-up. The plant features one of the largest electrolysis systems in the world.
Puertollano is set to produce 3,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, preventing the emission of 78,000 tonnes per year of CO2.
The project also includes a 100MW solar power plant and a 20MWh lithium-ion battery energy storage system (BESS).
Hydrogen output will be used by Fertiberia Group for the production of ammonia and replacement of natural gas.
Puertollano is part of Iberdrola’s larger plans for the production of 40,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year for Fertiberia until 2027. This could lead to an investment of up to €1.8bn.
