EIC’s North Sea Decarbonisation Conference Starts Today

17 May 2022

London, 17 May 2022 – The EIC, one of the world’s leading energy associations, launched today the second instalment of the North Sea Decarbonisation Conference (#NSDC2022) with speakers from major UK and global energy companies and organisations. The two-day event is held at the Grand Connaught Rooms in central London on 17 and 18 May 2022.

Focusing on the North Sea as a centre stage for decarbonisation efforts in the UK and Europe, speakers will discuss opportunities and challenges as well as industries and technologies that are expected to lead the way in reducing the basin’s carbon footprint.

Stuart Broadley, Chief Executive Officer of the EIC, said: “Keeping the economy running and businesses thriving while also meeting carbon emissions targets and contributing to other environmental and social goals is not an easy task for both businesses and governments.”

“This is especially true at a time of global instability brought by the war on Ukraine, rising energy and commodity prices, and challenging macroeconomic conditions with the world still grappling with the seismic ripples of Covid-19. NSDC2022 helps focus collective thinking about ways of decarbonising a key energy hub like the North Sea through major renewables and clean energy projects. It also showcases how major oil and gas companies can positively contribute to the energy transition.”

The EIC is organising #NSDC2022 in partnership with Agoria, IRO and World Forum Offshore Wind.

Split between two days, #NSDC2022’s sessions cover offshore wind, electrification of oil and gas assets, hydrogen, new technologies, carbon capture, usage and storage (CCUS) efforts, investment needs, and government policies.

Two sessions focus on particular projects, namely hydrogen projects in Teesside and government-backed CCUS clusters. Key industry players are also exhibiting at the conference.
