Neptune Energy has announced an oil and gas discovery at the Hamlet exploration well, licence PL153, in the Norwegian portion of the North Sea. The well is located 58 kilometres west of Florø, at a water depth of 358 metres.
Hydrocarbons were encountered in a total depth of 2,662 within the Agat play. Volumes are calculated to range between 5 to 11 million cubic metres or 30 to 70 million barrels of oil equivalent (mmboe).
With initial recoverable resources estimated at 8 to 24mmboe, Hamlet is currently being considered as tie-back to Gjøa’s semi-submersible platform, also operated by Neptune Energy.
Further studies are to be conducted by Neptune and its partners (Petoro, Wintershall Dea, and OKEA) before a definitive development plan is established.
