New pre-salt discovery by Petrobras

Petrobras has announced a new oil discovery in the pre-salt area of the Campos Basin. The wildcat well 1-BRSA-1383A-RJS (Alto de Cabo Frio Central Noroeste) is positioned 230km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, in a water depth of 1,833 metres.

Constellation’s Brava Star drillship began to drill the well in January 2022 and will continue the work to the final depth initially conceived. This will allow a better assessment of the accumulation’s dimensions and quality of fluids.

Wireline logs and fluid samples will now be studied and guide future decisions regarding exploration work.

Alto de Cabo Frio Central was acquired by Petrobras and BP at the 3^rd Production Sharing Round organised by Brazil’s National Petroleum Agency (ANP) in October 2017.
