INPEX makes oil and gas discoveries in onshore Abu Dhabi block

16 Dec 2021

INPEX discovered oil and gas deposits at Abu Dhabi's onshore Block 4 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Onshore Block 4 is located in the coastal area of the central part of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, covering an area of nearly 6,116km². The block is operated by IMPEX through its Japanese subsidiary JODCO Exploration (JEL).

JEL obtained the block as an operator in a new licensing round for oil and gas exploration, development, and production launched in 2018 by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) in Abu Dhabi.

Following the drilling of an exploration well from May until August this year, the firm encountered numerous conventional oil, condensate and gas columns.

It is estimated that the combined discoveries contain provisional reserves of oil, condensate and natural gas up to 1bn barrels of oil equivalent.
