Supermajor BP has confirmed plans to build the HyGreen Teesside green hydrogen project, located in the North-East of England.
A final investment decision (FID) is expected to be taken in 2023, with production scheduled to begin by 2025.
Located in Hartlepool, the initial phase of the project will aim to achieve nearly 60MWe of installed green hydrogen production capacity.
Alongside HyGreen Teesside, BP will also develop the H2Teesside blue hydrogen project and the Net Zero Teesside power project.
BP claims that the HyGreen and H2Teesside combined projects can meet 30% of the UK’s 2030 target for hydrogen production.
