Liberty, a subsidiary of Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp., is collaborating with JPMorgan Chase on the 108 MW Shady Oaks II wind project. It is expected to bring nearly 350,000 MWh of clean energy to the U.S. grid each year.
JPMorgan Chase will purchase approximately 70% of the energy output of the wind farms, which will serve as the largest contribution to date towards JPMorgan’s 100% renewable energy commitment, providing approximately 14% of its global power needs.
The 22-wind turbines Shady Oaks II project, located in Lee County, Illinois, represents an important opportunity to offset greenhouse gas emissions, help advance the transition to a low-carbon economy, and promote the growth of the clean energy footprint of Illinois.
The wind farm is expected to generate enough energy each year to power the equivalent of 32,800 American homes; inject funds into the community by supporting local landowners; and to contribute up to US$1.2m in property tax revenues for the local county per year.
Located about 50 miles west of Chicago, the construction of Shady Oaks II began in May of this year.
