Santos has awarded the front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for the design, construction and installation of the wellhead platform (WHP) for the Dorado project offshore Western Australia to Malaysia’s Sapura Energy.
The wellhead platform will be located in 90m of water over the Dorado oil and gas field contained within the WA-437-P permit in the Bedout sub-basin. It will also have reservoir performance monitoring functionality to enable optimal reservoir recovery among other features.
The wellhead platform will host the development wells as well as gas reinjection wells with minimum processing facilities. It will be controlled remotely from a 2km distant floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) facility.
Following the platform installation, development drilling will be carried out in 2024 and 2025 using a jack-up mobile offshore drilling unit.
The first production from the Dorado project is expected in 2026, according to Santos.
