Heavy lifting specialist Mammoet is returning to the Bruce Power nuclear facility in Ontario, Canada, to continue supporting the site's ongoing major component replacement project. Initiated in 2020, the overarching life-extension programme involves overhauling six reactor units across the Bruce A and B stations.
Having previously assisted with steam generator exchanges at Unit 3 in 2024, Mammoet will now execute a similar scope for Unit 4. Working alongside the Steam Generator Replacement Team - a joint venture between Aecon and SGT - the contractor will provide lifting, transport and jack-and-slide services.
Over a scheduled six-month period, crews will relocate two steam drums and replace eight steam generators. The operation will rely on a 1,600t capacity PTC-35 ring crane, chosen for its stability in extreme wind conditions, alongside self-propelled modular transporters to move end-of-life components into long-term storage.
