Petrobras has initiated oil production at the Búzios 8 project using the P-79 floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel. Located in the pre-salt layer of Brazil’s Santos Basin, the unit commenced operations ahead of the schedule outlined in the operator’s 2026-30 business plan.
As the eighth platform to enter service in the Búzios field, P-79 can process 180,000 barrels of oil and compress 7.2m cubic metres of gas daily. This addition elevates the field's total installed capacity to approximately 1.33m barrels per day. Linked to 14 wells, the facility will also enhance domestic gas supply by up to 3m cubic metres daily through an interconnection with the ROTA 3 pipeline.
Operated by Petrobras in partnership with CNOOC and CNODC, Búzios is currently considered the world's largest deepwater pre-salt oilfield.
