APM Terminals Japan, a Maersk Group company, has signed a 20-year corporate power purchase agreement (PPA) with FPS Inc. to supply renewable electricity to its operations at the Port of Yokohama. Commencing on 1 April 2026, the power is sourced from newly developed solar facilities across the Tokyo region with a combined capacity of 5.5MW.
The physical PPA will replace fossil fuel-based grid electricity, reducing Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 2.6ktCO2e annually. This initiative aligns with A.P. Moller-Maersk’s wider strategy to source 100% renewable electricity by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions across its value chain by 2040. By facilitating new solar capacity additions to the national grid, the deal supports Japan's broader energy transition while shielding terminal operations from electricity price volatility.
