LLOG Exploration has announced first oil from the Salamanca floating production unit (FPU), positioned in the Leon and Castile fields in the US Gulf of Mexico. The milestone represents the first reuse of a former Gulf production unit for a new project.
Operations began through a previously drilled Leon well, with plans to increase production from a second Leon well and the first Castile well later this year. In 2026, the operator expects a third Leon and a second Castile wells to come online.
The Salamanca unit has been redesigned to feature oil and gas processing capacities of 60,000 barrels per day (bpd) and 40 million cubic feet per day (MMcfd), respectively.
