The former Ness Landfill site in Aberdeen is about to receive an 8MW solar power plant under development by the Aberdeen City Council and bp. The solar park will power a green hydrogen production facility and refueling station for buses and trucks.
With construction scheduled to start early next year by engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and testing contractor RSK Renewables, the project will see the installation of over 11,000 Trina solar modules and 16 Sungrow inverters. It will also feature a Sungrow medium-voltage station that will connect the power plant to the grid.
The first development phase of the hydrogen facility to be powered by this solar park will feature 2.5MW of electrolyser capacity. A larger, commercial-scale 10MW phase is also planned. Future expansions could include a scaled up production for rail, freight and marine uses, as well as for heating and export.
