Samsung C&T Corporation has been selected by QatarEnergy to build its Dukhan solar project. Once operational, the 2GW solar power plant will more than double the country's total solar generation capacity.
The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract's value is calculated at US$1.2bn. The facility will be built about 80km west of Doha.
With a phased development, Dukhan should start operations in 2028 with 1GW and be fully functional by 2029. Along with other solar projects by QatarEnergy, the solar park will contribute to a carbon dioxide emission reduction of approximately 4.7 million tonnes per year.
