BW Offshore has announced first gas from the BW Opal floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit. The vessel is stationed at the Barossa gas field, located 285km off the coast of Darwin, Australia.
BW Opel's processing capacity is planned to reach up to 850 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscf/d) of gas and 11,000 barells per day (bpd) of stabilised condensate.
The vessel successfully commenced production operations after being granted ready for start-up (RFSU) status on 16 September. All six wells have been drilled with testing completed on five of them.
The Barossa field is part of a development that also includes the Caldita field to feed a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in Darwin.
