Abu Dhabi headquartered renewables firm Masdar has won a contract to build a 457MW solar PV plant in Uzbekistan.
The Uzbek Ministry of Energy awarded the tender for the construction of the facility in the Sherabad district of the Surkhandarya region with the winning bid’s energy tariff coming in at $0.018045 per kWh.
Also included in the project will be the construction of a new 220kV substation and a 52km transmission line to the 500kV Surkhan substation.
Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev formally launched the implementation phase of the project during a site visit on Tuesday 1st June 2021.
The Sherabad project is part of a wider programme to construct solar plants with a total capacity of 1GW, backed by the Asian Development Bank.
