TotalEnergies has made public its plans for a 49MW solar farm and a 5MW battery energy storage system (BESS) near the Birmingham Airport in the UK. Named Castle Hills, the project could be able to meet the power needs of nearly 14,000 homes every year.
Once operational, the developer expects the facility to be operational through 40 years. During this period, an annual £40,000 community fund will support local groups and initiatives.
Before a planning application is presented to the Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, TotalEnergies has initiated public consultations with the local community. Conversations are also ongoing for a possible direct energy supply between Castle Hills and the Birmingham Airport.
